NEW DELHI 10 Nov, 2025— A devastating car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station killed at least eight people and injured 24 others on Monday evening

The blast occurred at 6:52 pm near Gate 1 in Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area when a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal suddenly exploded. The high-intensity blast triggered massive fires that consumed six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one autorickshaw, with up to 22 vehicles damaged. Firefighters controlled the blaze by 7:29 pm.
All victims were rushed to LNJP Hospital, with three in critical condition. Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene with debris scattered across the road.
Investigation Underway
Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed a multi-agency probe involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and Delhi Police Special Cell. Prime Minister Modi was briefed and continues monitoring the situation.
Initial reports suggest the explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20, though the vehicle type remains unclear. Authorities have not ruled out terror attacks, fuel cylinder accidents, or deliberate bombings.
Potential Terror Link
The blast occurred hours after authorities seized 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad and arrested eight people—including three doctors—linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed. Investigators are exploring whether the Red Fort explosion is connected to this terror network.
Security Alert
High alerts were declared across Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, with enhanced security at sensitive locations and borders. The Red Fort area remains cordoned off with restricted traffic movement.
As investigations continue, authorities work to determine whether this was a deliberate terror attack or a tragic accident—answers that will shape India’s security response ahead.
